Session 2: Storytelling and Media Making

April 22, 2016
11:30am - 12:30pm

Museum of Vancouver

If you work with Indigenous communities, or recognize the need to, this session will offer you cultural teachings & Indigenous world views to challenge your practice. Exploring the role of mainstream media, Indigenous media, and storytelling practices, Ryan will share road stories and lessons on communicating inside and outside of Indigenous communities. Ryan McMahon was in the middle of the Idle No More movement and can navigate complex issues of Indigenous representation in Canada. Through his writing with VICE, CBC, CBC Aboriginal, APTN & others he has learned how stories can bridge these different worlds. Ryan will introduce various media tools & mediums through the workshop and reveal how both traditional & contemporary stories can work together.
